Karen Ashford

Senior Travel Consultant

When did you start working in the travel industry?

I started working in travel in 1998.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Creating that excitement and buzz with the customers when they have booked their planned trip. I have made a difference and helped in making these people happy - which is what holidays are all about..

Where would you like to visit next?

Really fancy Croatia or Montenegro. I've been told to go now before it gets ruined by tourism... the irony!

What is your dream holiday destination?

Canada - So much to see. Cities, wildlife and The Rocky Mountaineer would be marvellous Gold leaf please! :-)

What has been your favourite holiday, which you have booked for a customer, that you would love to take yourself?

Australia - Tailor-made for 6 weeks over Christmas and New Year. I booked them a private boat in Sydney Harbour to watch Sydney's New Year fireworks up close. The trip was also staying in amazing, beautiful hotels and private tour guides. I was so envious of this trip. One of my biggest bookings - £32k for two adults.

What were your childhood holidays like?

Any where with a pool and beach - we were a family of five so wherever we could get a two-bedroom apartment in peak time.

What are the first three things in your case?

Passport, money, travel insurance. That's all I need... plus lip gloss.

My Travel Memory
Japan - Amazing country! The people, the way of life, food and how clean and safe it is. Mount Fuji and the bullet train was a super experience. Tokyo was superb; I loved it and would love to go back as so much more to see.
